EGING FAUST
MASKEN DES ALLTAGS

Costume Design and Collection |   2025   |
shot by Tim Cavadini, Mike Haas, Sophie Salfinger

This work explores the interplay between fashion and costume design, questioning the conventional separation of both disciplines. Based on practical experience in costume design for the UNI.T theatre production Edging Faust (December 2024), a collection was developed that builds upon this research. Through this form of fieldwork, the investigation addressed the extent to which clothing can function both as an individual expression and as a performative medium.

The central question is: How closely are fashion and costume intertwined? Are there clear boundaries, or do they blur in practice? Is fashion not already the costume of everyday life, taking its place within a global performance?

The result is a symbiosis of both disciplines, highlighting their intersections and allowing for the possibilities of their fusion.

Process

The mixture of Planatol PB (glue), acrylic paint, and water was brushed onto a wavy plastic surface and dried for several days.

The dried material was then removed from the substrate, which inevitably created a uniquely cracked surface look. Finally, the crumpled material was applied to a sash, creating a voluminous piece of clothing.
